Well Hi all, I'm just a crazy radio geek. also a licensed ham aka amateur with the call of VK3IVY.

Always liked scanning around the bands finding interesting stuff.

VHF and UHF is quite interesting, but there are some real gems to be found in the HF and LF portions of the band. Weird weird things.

Anyway found the site via a google search and so far so good.

Cool - welcome. Maybe you can share some of the "weird stuff"

Once this guy was talking to himself for about 20 minutes. Forgot which frequency but it was freaky.

Weird religious stations in the shortwave bands. These guys are usually pirates running 50kW+. Most of these are operated out of the USA, and for some reason the FCC turns a blind eye towards them.

Numbers stations, now these are weird, a mechanical voice reading out strings of 4 number groups for hours on end. I have a short recording of one of these from china in manderin. Manderin Numbers Station. I've also picked up ones from Mossad, and MI5. Another thing that's weird is the Russian Buzzer, it just buzzes every second or so, and has done so for years.

There's also the weather beacons all around Australia, Shipping, Aircraft, and all sorts of other odd things. Like RTTY (radio teletype) and modes I still haven't quite worked out.

Then there is all of the short wave radio stations. Ranging from the BBC world service, to Radio Korea (the north korean one) which is dear leader this dear leader that.

The HF bands are a lot of fun, and there is decent cheap gear you can get to scan these bands, but you need to make sure it does SSB as well as AM as without SSB you'd be missing out on all the cool stuff.
