National Police Remembrance Day 2007

Recommended Posts

Next Friday – 28 September 2007 – residents of Australasia and the South West Pacific region will observe the 19th Commemoration of National Police Remembrance Day.

A number of services will be held across the state to reflect on the bravery, selflessness and courage of officers killed in the line of duty and to remember past and serving NSW Police who have died in the previous 12 months.

The first National Police Remembrance Day was held on 29 September 1989 to remember those brave police officers who gave their lives to protect and serve our community.

National Police Remembrance Day is traditionally held on 29 September to coincide with St Michael’s Day; St Michael is the patron Saint of Police and Archangel charged to protect and defend people. He is the angel of careers, courage, achievements, ambitions, motivations and life tasks. This year, however, services will be held throughout the state predominantly on Friday 28 September.

The Sydney service will begin at 9.30am at the Wall of Remembrance, The Domain.

A dedication at the Wall of Remembrance will be followed by a march to St Mary's Cathedral. The service will begin at 10.45am and will be conducted by His Eminence Cardinal George Pell, Archbishop of Sydney. All participants are asked to be seated by 10.30am.

All services will observe a minute’s silence to remember those officers who have given their lives while carrying out their duties.
